Network Music Players

Network Music Players connect your Hi-fi system to your computer using a Wi-fi or Ethernet network. Digital music files are stored on your computer and streamed to the Network Music Player where they are converted from digital files to analogue music. We were so impressed by the Network Music Players from Slim Devices (now owned by Logitech) that when we launched our Studio Master Download store in 2007 we arranged to sell them by mail-order - they are now widely available from hi-fi stores and other suppliers.

The audio quality of the Squeezebox Duet, when playing Lossless CD Quality files is equivalent to audiophile CD players costing many times the price - add the ability to play 24-bit Studio Master Downloads and there is simply no contest. Many 24-bit recordings have been made in recent years but they have to be degraded to be released on Compact Disc which is a 16-bit format.

The Squeezebox Classic, Duet, Receiver and Transporter will play Gimell MP3, CD Quality and Studio Master Stereo Downloads, they will also play music copied to your computer from CDs. The Transporter will play our Studio Master Pro Stereo Downloads but even better quality players are now available from Linn and other suppliers.

Easy to use and set up - it takes just a few minutes to install: simply load SqueezeCenter, the powerful and free Open Source software, onto your computer and connect the player to your network.

Fast searches - browse and search up to 100,000 recordings in seconds. The user-friendly interface allows you to browse quickly through your whole music collection via the supplied remote control or any web browser on the same network. Slim Devices players can also be controlled by a wide variety of devices including universal remotes, Sony PSP, Philips Pronto, Nokia 770, PocketPC, Palm OS and even certain cell phones.

Multi-room systems are simple - just buy another Squeezebox Classic, Receiver or Transporter and connect it to the same network. You can choose to synchronise selected players to listen to the same music or have something different in every room. You can also listen to many hundreds of internet radio stations without even turning on your PC.

There is a wealth of information on the Slim Devices website. Please note that it is not possible to play DRM-protected downloads from iTunes and certain other stores.

Slim Devices' TransporterTM was designed to appeal to the most discerning audiophiles and music lovers. It streams digital music with sound quality that surpasses even the most exotic compact disc players. At the heart of Transporter is a "no compromise" attitude to component selection and electronic design.

Transporter Wireless Network Music Player Front View Remote Control

Feel Your Music - The TransNavTM controller uses dynamic tactile feedback to provide fast access to any recording even in the largest music collection. The sleek, backlit, infrared remote and dual fluorescent displays make it easy to use from anywhere in the room.

Quality Connectors - Transporter's back panel features a complete set of professional-grade connectors, including both balanced and unbalanced signals for its analog and digital interfaces.

Astounding Analogue - The AK4396 "Miracle DAC" was chosen for its high dynamic range and low distortion. Its low out-of-band noise allows for the use of low-order output filters with higher cutoffs, resulting in preservation of phase and reduced distortion in the audible band. This extraordinary accuracy at higher frequencies allows Transporter to resolve the exact staging of instruments and the finest details of any recording. In addition, Transporter's digital inputs allow its built-in DAC to be used with other sources.

Accurate Digital - Transporter's digital path is not only "bit perfect", but also extremely accurate in timing precision. Clock signals in Transporter are handled not as ones and zeroes, but as precision analog signals. Specialized crystal oscillators, careful clock management, and linear-regulated logic supplies ensure the lowest possible jitter throughout the system.

Clean Power - Transporter's DAC and output amplifiers are powered by Super Regulators, based on the legendary design by Walt Jung. These regulators offer lower output impedance, faster response, and better noise rejection than standard three-terminal regulators. The result is an incredibly natural sound, with a pitch-black background and a shocking level of detail.

Transporter is the network music player audiophiles have been waiting for.
